Chiz Bros. played a meaningful role in the presentation of the 2026 J. Earl Frazier Memorial Scholarship, reinforcing the company’s active support of the American Ceramic Society and its commitment to the future of the ceramics industry. As a provider of ceramic fiber products, Chiz Bros. continues to participate in efforts that connect industry leadership with the next generation of materials science professionals.

At the event, Mark Morelock of Chiz Bros. was part of the team presenting the 2026 J. Earl Frazier Memorial Scholarship through the American Ceramic Society Pittsburgh Section to Evan Moffett and Jacob Akana. The scholarship recognizes academic achievement, technical promise, and dedication to the ceramics and materials science community, honoring students who are already making an impact in the field.

Meet Evan Moffett

Evan Moffett, a junior in Penn State University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, earned first-place recognition for his strong academic record and growing experience in the field. A Dean’s List student since his freshman year and a 2023 President Walker Award recipient, Evan has already built an impressive foundation through research and industry experience. After interning with Wabtec Corp. last summer, he is set to join Corning’s Wilmington, North Carolina, research center this summer, where he will focus on optical fiber manufacturing.

Meet Jacob Akana

Jacob Akana, a sophomore in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, was also recognized for his academic excellence and early research contributions. A Dean’s High Honors student, Jacob presented his freshman-year research on Sn-doped BaTiO3 at MS&T 2025, demonstrating both technical skill and initiative. His work has earned praise from both peers and professors, reflecting the promise he brings to the next generation of ceramic and materials science professionals.
